Except for the very beginning and the very end, this is through and through a chase film. It is based on the novel by Ludlum. Matt Damon plays Jason Bourne, the guy being chased. The plot has little more complexity than this chase, but it provides us with continuous action. Damon carries the action successfully and his scenes are well done. Also toward the end of the film there is a three or four story fall that I found just short of amazing, however they did it. Action is what this film is all about, and for that genre, it's a good film. Franka Potente plays Marie. She gets involved with Jason early on, so they are chased together. After seeing her perform in two excellent Tykwer German films, Run Lola, Run and The Princess and the Warrior I was really curious to see her in Bourne, but the part wasn't enough for her to show her stuff. Although, I couldn't help watching her face and her range of expressions. As for the rating, I think they counted up the gunshots and dead bodies, found it was less than 100 and decided on PG-13. |
